Like the Other big DSLR Companies Canon has spent the majority of its marketing and focus on its Flagship DSLR Lineups and Lenses. Which leaves their Mirrorless Camera options all but lacking. Until now that is. Canon’s New EOS M5 takes a serious punch at the top Mirrorless Cameras on the market today. The easiest way to describe it is to compare it to Canon’s 80D DSLR Camera with about half the weight of the DSLR Camera.
The M5’s specs line up almost exactly with Canon’s 80D. Same size 24.2-megapixel APS-C sensor, the same 49 cross-type autofocus points, and an ISO range of 100-25,600. Even better is that it has Canon’s dual pixel autofocus system and the newer Digic 7 Image processor. Canon reports that the M5’s image quality will be as good if not better than the 80d.
Canon’s previous mirrorless options the M, M2, M3, and M10 were small and compact, but lacked some essential features a true photographer wanted, like a viewfinder. Canon promises that this camera is going to be the bar that all of their newest mirrorless cameras will adhere too. Time will tell. The Canon EOS M5 goes on sale in November 2016 and will sell with a kit lens for $1,479.00 More information on the camera can be found here.
